Dassehra is also known as Vijayadashmi, Vijaya means "Victory" and Dashmi means "10th day". The meaning referred to Lord Ram's victory over the Ten headed Demon Ravana. The day also marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the Demon Mahishashur. The festival is celebrated as the day when Lord Ram killed the Demon Ravana. Demon Ravana had kidnapped the Lord Ram's beloved wife Sita and held her captive in his kingdom of Lanka. Lord Rama was the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu (Supreme God in Hinduism). Lord Rama is also known as "Purushottam" means supreme Purush (personality). Lord Rama is the perfect Avatar of Lord Vishnu and has been described as the embodiment of truth, morality, an ideal son, an ideal husband and overall an ideal King. Lord Rama is Prayed upon as the :

Performing a Pooja dedicated to Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman and Goddess Durga on the occasion of Dussehra is supposed to bring Protection from all kind of adversaries and evil energies, as well as Peace, Progress and overall Prosperity in all the areas of life by the blessings of Lord Rama, Goddess Durga and Lord Hanuman. It is also a widely practiced custom that all kinds of machines and weapons including Vehicles are worshipped on this day of Dassehra to get their best performance for the coming year.
